Guarding The Gospel

Parading Of The Guard - Part 2

1Timothy 2:9-15

Introduction

Today we are going to speak of women soldiers, women who are entrusted with guarding the gospel against False proplets.  My wife once quipped:  "Behind every successful man stands an exhausted woan."  Under the right conditions, women make just as fierce and brave soldiers as men.

A.  Women Soldiers:  Be Sensible In Your Adornment

I can just hear some of you ladies curling your toes?  Hear the scripture:

"I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes."

I often hear the complaint that some ladies stopped going to the churches where every Sunday was a fashion show!  Dowdy isn't particularly Christian - but showing off certainly isn't helping.

B.  Women  Soldiers:  Be Submissive To Authority

Face it - verse 11 is tough for you ladies:

"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.  Not just the bossiness problem, but the quietness is tough.

"12.  I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man, she must be quiet."

NO. I have seen the great benefit that women bring.  Women prophets preach the most powerful sermons.   Women pray the most powerful prayers.  Women give God-glorifying testimonies.

"15.  But women will be saved through childbearing - if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety."

Ladies, those things are one of the greatest contributions you can make to guard against false teachers stealing the truth from our Church:  continue in  faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Conclusion

Here at Clinton Church of the Nazarene, we don't expect lock-step thinking on all matters.  Please don't imagine we are changing from the way the international Church of the Nazarene has been led to do things.  We read the same scriptures you do.  We seek the same Holy Spirit you do.
